From 2020 onwards, resume record increase
- Seven EU countries with upward-trend
- Values of over 19 GW possible according to HSH Nordbank
- 32 percent energy consumption target planned for 2030
According to GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council), the expansion on the European market is expected to jump to 16 and 17 GW again from 2020, reminiscent of the successes achieved in 2016. According to the latest analyses by HSH Nordbank, even values of over 19 GW seem now possible. For 2022 to 2025 – as in the record year 2017 – more than 16 GW would still be added annually. Basically, HSH Nordbank’s “Wind Energy Sector Study” shows a good starting position for the expansion of wind energy in Europe and in this context also speaks of a currently “very favourable financial market environment”.
Perseverance pays off
Even if European wind construction has to cope with a temporary slump, HSH Nordbank’s development forecast postulates a clear upward trend for seven European countries until 2021: Italy, Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey and Norway. Three countries in particular – Spain, Turkey and Norway – can expect an exceptional year and the associated large-scale additions of gigawatts. France, on the other hand, is expected to reach a new peak of expansion in 2022, with an average of 2.1 GW. This would make growth similar to that of the British wind market.
Analysts see the agreement of the countries of the European Union (EU) on a new version of their renewable energy directives – whose goal is a 32 percent share of energy consumption for the year 2030 – as a decisive success factor for stabilising the expansion of wind power.
